LESSONS FROM UGANDA
Uganda just like India were British colonies. Whereas there are differences, commonalities exist too. The session on Uganda intends to share about land administration and management in the postcolonial era in Uganda. It brings together stakeholders with diverse expertise on the various land tenure systems in Uganda: customary land administration in Uganda, women land rights, Buganda Land Board who manage land on behalf of the Kabaka of Buganda with a focus on the mailo land tenure system and its unique characteristics, as well as the leasehold tenure which will elucidate on the tenant – landlord relationship. The session will draw lessons from Uganda, share challenges and offer recommendations not only for Uganda but to benefit south to south knowledge sharing and formulation of coalitions/partnerships in the land sector that seek to work towards a more equitable and just society.

It is a great pleasure and an important milestone in terms of South-South collaboration. YILAA’s session will takle Youth Land Training and Research programs in Africa. Afterward, the audience will get to know more about the International Youth Land Governance Conference in Africa (CIGOFA) and the interests for Youth and States. We will conclude our session with a study case: Youth Land Governance programs in DRC. YILAA has developped a great knowledge on land governance in Africa, it is our pleasure to share with the audience while we learn from the experience of the ILDC.
